SCSA Update-Letter From Technical Director

Feb. 08, 2021

Greetings Soccer Families

As the Indoor 2020-2021 draws to a close, despite all the challenges that Covid presented, the SCSA board cannot help but to feel grateful for the many positives encountered this season:

  • Thank you to the families who enrolled their children in our indoor season. As we all know, living through a pandemic is something no one has experience with. Thank you for being flexible and adjusting to new protocols as we moved through the season.
  • To all the parents who volunteered to help with covid screenings/checks and sanitization. Your help allowed us to feel comfortable providing a safe environment for our players and their families.
  • To the 48 House League and United Coaches who volunteered their time and talents to provide a safe, welcoming atmosphere, and to teach the sport of soccer to our youth.
  • To the 11 youth and adult referees who started the indoor season with us. Who would have thought hand whistles were a thing?
  • To Mr. John Leyshon. If you don’t know John, he has been our Ref mentor for many years. He has dedicated hours of time to the club, supporting the refs as they grow. To Jackie Kielo, our meticulous ref coordinator. Thank you for your time in helping organize our refs, and your consistent communication with board members to ensure that house league games were never interrupted.
  • To our fellow board members for their extra time this season ensuring that we were able to provide an opportunity to train, practice, and play.

2020-2021 Indoor Recap:

  • We began the season with increased screening processes via the RAMP team app. We are looking to continue use of RAMP for seasons ahead as it allows for easy screening and attendance notifications as well as quick schedule checking.
  • As provincial guidelines changed, our processes were required to adapt to these changes and we learned a lot this season on how to best manage protocols with the ultimate goal of player and volunteer safety.
  • Though this pandemic indoor season, we had three covid-19 positive cases connected with soccer, and were grateful that no transmission occurred through play.
  • After our pause at the end of November, and further provincial guidelines, our 8 player training groups were created and implemented in January.
  • When all was said and done, our initial cost of $7 per soccer session increased to $9.37 due to missed sessions, keeping soccer one of, if not the most affordable sporting option in Swift Current.
